Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Willow Canyon's 12th in Last 15 Outings

It's playoff time, and Willow Canyon had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Casa Grande Cougars with a sharp 15-7 win on Saturday. Considering the Wildcats have won 14 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Mataya Olson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Courtney Ray was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Willow Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They are 16-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Willow Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Casa Grande, they moved to 18-8 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Coming up, Willow Canyon will challenge Desert Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their 24th straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. Casa Grande does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
