Softball Game Preview: Grape Creek Eagles vs. Sweetwater Mustangs

The Grape Creek Eagles will face off against the Sweetwater Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Grape Creek's hitters haven't had much luck over their past six contests, but Friday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. Grape Creek came up short against San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy, falling 18-2.

Meanwhile, Sweetwater won against San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy last Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over Lubbock Christian. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Alexis Heredia-Gonzales was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Maestas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Sweetwater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games.

Sweetwater's win bumped their record up to 10-20. As for Grape Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.

Grape Creek might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Sweetwater in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
