Recap: Gaston Day Spartans vs. Northside Christian Academy Knights
Even though the Gaston Day Spartans have not done well against the Northside Christian Academy Knights recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Gaston Day managed a 58-53 victory over Northside Christian Academy. The win was all the more spectacular given Gaston Day's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Northside Christian Academy is ranked 19th).
Gaston Day's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Griffen Simpson, who scored 17 points. Simpson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Todd, who scored 12 points.
Gaston Day is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Northside Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-9.
Gaston Day will head out on the road to take on Hickory Grove Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hickory Grove Christian has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. As for Northside Christian Academy, they will be playing at home against Metrolina Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
