The Big Valley Christian Lions will face off against the Le Grand Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Big Valley Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Buckingham Charter by a score of 7-2. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Madyx Mitchell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Francesca Ortega and Brynn MacWilliams did most of the damage at the plate: Ortega earned one run and four stolen bases, while MacWilliams went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Ortega has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cecily Fontana, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Le Grand never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Mariposa County. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 contests by six runs or more this season.
Ava Avila was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Ceja was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base. Makayla Leyva was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Le Grand always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mariposa County only posted an OBP of .118.
Le Grand pushed their record up to 22-7 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Big Valley Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 12-18.
