Basketball Game Preview: Fossil Ridge Panthers vs. Saginaw Rough Riders

The Fossil Ridge Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Saginaw Rough Riders at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Saginaw took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Fossil Ridge, who comes in off a win.

Fossil Ridge will head into Tuesday's contest on the come-up: they were handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Chisholm Trail on Tuesday. Fossil Ridge was the clear victor by a 62-39 margin over Chisholm Trail. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Rangers are ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Saginaw was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 48-36 to Chisholm Trail. The matchup was a 19-19 toss-up at halftime, but the Rough Riders couldn't quite close it out.

Fossil Ridge will have to contain Amaya McGrew as she made an impact in Saginaw's last game. She posted seven points and 13 rebounds. That's the most boards McGrew has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Stockton, who had five points and seven steals.

Fossil Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Saginaw, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-17.

Fossil Ridge strolled past Saginaw in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 53-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fossil Ridge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
