Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newberg). They blew past the Glencoe Crimson Tide 13-7 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Zadek Bowlby made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cole Thomas and Parker Sellner did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Sellner went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Sellner has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Hawes, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Newberg's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-5. As for Glencoe, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Newberg will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Crimson Tide: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
