Baseball Game Preview: Owen Warhorses vs. Draughn Wildcats

For the second straight game, Owen will face off against Draughn. The Warhorses will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m.

Owen came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss last Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Draughn by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Warhorses in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost seven in a row.

For Draughn's part, Tate Jensen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Jensen is becoming a predictor of Draughn's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Jensen was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

Jensen wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Mull, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Draughn is undefeated when Mull posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

Draughn hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Owen struck out 16 times.

The win (which was Draughn's seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Owen, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
