Volleyball Game Preview: Lawrence Free State Firebirds vs. Lawrence Lions

The Lawrence Free State Firebirds will challenge the Lawrence Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lawrence Free State will be strutting in after a win while Lawrence will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Lawrence Free State turned things around against Olathe South on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 3-1.

Lawrence Free State had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-22.

Meanwhile, Lawrence lost 3-0 to Olathe West on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Owls: they've now lost seven in a row.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-11, 25-12.

Lawrence Free State's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Lawrence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Everything went Lawrence Free State's way against Lawrence when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Lawrence Free State made off with a 3-0 win. Do the Firebirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
