Softball Game Preview: Windham Bombers vs. Maplewood Rockets

Windham hasn't had much luck against Maplewood recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bombers will square off against the Rockets at 4:30 p.m. Windham has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Windham fell victim to Mathews and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 17-0. The Bombers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Maplewood put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over St. John. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Maplewood got a massive performance out of Ava Calvert, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Calvert has posted since back in April of 2024. Lauran Krieg was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Maplewood's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Windham, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Windham couldn't quite get it done against Maplewood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-5. Can the Bombers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
