Football Recap: Hawthorne Cougars vs. Dominguez Dons
After flying high against Firebaugh last Friday, Hawthorne came back down to earth. The Cougars were dealt a 58-6 loss at the hands of the Dominguez Dons on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 815th, while the Dons are ranked 380th).
Darrell Frazier was a one-man wrecking crew For Dominguez. as he rushed for 118 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries. Frazier also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up 2.5 sacks and making five total tackles. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Curtis Hicklen, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Hawthorne's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. As for Dominguez, their record now sits at 2-0.
Looking ahead, Hawthorne will be playing in front of their home fans against Granite Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Dominguez, they will venture away from home to challenge Castaic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
