Softball Recap: Azle Gets the Win

Azle's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Chisholm Trail Rangers. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won five in a row.

Corynne Barone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Azle got a big performance out of Ema Lehr, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Bella Tipton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Azle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Azle's win bumped their record up to 7-9-2. As for Chisholm Trail, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-10-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Azle will head out to take on Fossil Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Azle will need to watch out since Fossil Ridge has now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for Chisholm Trail, they will venture away from home to face off against Brewer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chisholm Trail's pitchers better be ready for this one: Brewer has averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
