Basketball Recap: Akron-Westfield Comes Up Short

Akron-Westfield lost against Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Akron-Westfield Westerners took a blow against the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union Royals, falling 76-46. While losing is never fun, the Westerners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Royals are ranked 75th).

Akron-Westfield has also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 18-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Akron-Westfield will square off against Trinity Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union, they will challenge Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
