Softball Recap: Central Columbia's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Central Columbia dropped their record down to 15-4 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Hughesville Spartans, falling 12-4. If the Bluejays were looking for revenge after losing 6-5 to the Spartans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hughesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Hughesville, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Hughesville's part, Ella Breneisen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Breneisen has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Hughesville got a massive performance out of Maddie Smith, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Ashlynn Barlett was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

As of now, neither Central Columbia nor Hughesville have any future games scheduled.
