Baseball Game Preview: Mingo Central Miners vs. Belfry Pirates

Mingo Central is 0-6 against Belfry since March of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Mingo Central Miners will venture away from home to take on the Belfry Pirates at 5:30 p.m.

Mingo Central came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 16-2 to Pike County Central.

Mingo Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Blankenship, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Dylan Vance was another, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Even though they lost, Mingo Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Belfry put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against Martin County. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since May 8, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Chase Varney, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Caudill, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Belfry's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Mingo Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Mingo Central suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Belfry in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Mingo Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
