Basketball Recap: Weld Central Rebels vs. University Bulldogs
Weld Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 71-33 defeat at the hands of the University Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 295th in Colorado, while the Bulldogs are ranked 81st in Colorado).
Despite the loss, Weld Central still got an impressive performance from Ross Phelps, who posted 11 points.
University was led to victory by Coehn Nitzel and Gage Schminke. Nitzel dropped a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Schminke almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. Nitzel has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 20 times he's played. Ethan Abeyta was another key player, going 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points and five steals.
Weld Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-18. As for University, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Weld Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-42 defeat against Brush on the 20th. As for University, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-72 win against Yuma on the 21st.
