Basketball Recap: Cornelius Winfrey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Towers over Columbia

Towers lost against Columbia back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. 2025 welcomed the Towers Titans with a 72-47 loss courtesy of the Columbia Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Eagles are ranked 48th).

Towers' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cornelius Winfrey, who posted 17 points. Jalen Kelly was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Towers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Towers' loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Columbia, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Towers wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 76-59 defeat against Putnam County on the 7th. As for Columbia, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 45-43 win against Salem on the 7th.
