League recap: Deep Creek scores huge upset over Great Bridge

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Great Bridge, who took down 203rd ranked Great Bridge, 18-16.

Grassfield's Isaiah Harper recorded the longest rushing play in AAA Southeastern this season in his game against Western Branch last week. Harper's team bested the Bruins as he sprinted for 90 yards on the play and finished with 95 in all.

Western Branch's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. C.J. Thomas threw for 148 and one touchdown and Donte Shepard had 52 yards receiving. On the ground Josh Marriner chipped in 113 yards. TJ Booth helped Western Branch's passing attack out by catching five balls for 51 yards.

Grassfield's Blake LaRussa and Paris Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. LaRussa has thrown for 663 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 12 catches for 379 yards. Marriner from Greg Gibson's team leads the league in rushing with 957 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Bruins and Oscar Smith. Western Branch comes into the matchup ranked 15th in the state, while the Tigers ranks fifth.

The Bruins' Marriner is a mere 43 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

Two of the top units in AAA Southeastern will face off this week when Western Branch takes on Richard Morgan's team. The Bruins' offense has scored 228 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Tigers have allowed only 67 on the year.

Marty Asprey's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Western Branch, 38-7. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Grizzlies.
