Softball Game Preview: Cheboygan Chiefs vs. Sault Area Blue Devils

Cheboygan has gone a perfect 3-0 against Sault Area recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Chiefs will head out to challenge the Blue Devils at 4:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Cheboygan put up the most runs they have all season on Monday. Everything went their way against Harbor Springs as they made off with a 16-1 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Jenna Dodder was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Diem Schley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cheboygan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Sault Area made easy work of St. Ignace on Monday and carried off a 21-7 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.

Cheboygan's record is now 4-10. As for Sault Area, their record now sits at 3-10.

Everything went Cheboygan's way against Sault Area when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Cheboygan made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
