Recap: Desert Edge Scorpions vs. Horizon Huskies
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Desert Edge Scorpions had no problem doing just that on Friday. They skirted past the Huskies 18-15. The win was nothing new for Desert Edge as they're now sitting on four straight.
Markhi Mckinnon was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Mckinnon was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards.
Despite the defeat, Horizon had strong showings from Anthony Segura, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and Jase Ashley, who threw for 93 yards and a touchdown.
Desert Edge pushed their record up to 11-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.89 points. As for Horizon, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.
Desert Edge will head out on the road to face off against Higley at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Higley has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 287 points over their last five contests. Horizon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
