Softball Game Preview: West Ridge Wolves vs. Unicoi County Blue Devils

The West Ridge Wolves will head out to challenge the Unicoi County Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (West Ridge 2.9, Unicoi County 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Unicoi County will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: West Ridge extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Wolves came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against David Crockett.

Meanwhile, Unicoi County hadn't done well against Tennessee recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Blue Devils walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Vikings. The win was nothing new for the Blue Devils as they're now sitting on five straight.

Lela Byrd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kyndal Engle and Abigail Peterson did most of the damage at the plate: Engle went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Peterson went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Engle, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Unicoi County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

West Ridge's record now sits at 8-6. As for Unicoi County, their record is now 15-5.

Everything went West Ridge's way against Unicoi County in their previous matchup back in March, as West Ridge made off with an 11-1 victory. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
