Football Game Preview: Linton-Stockton Miners vs. Mitchell Bluejackets

The Linton-Stockton Miners will challenge the Mitchell Bluejackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Linton-Stockton is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Northview just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Knights, falling 35-14. The Miners were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-8.

Linton-Stockton might have lost, but man, Paul Oliver was a machine: he rushed for 92 yards and one TD, and also threw for 71 yards and one touchdown on only five passes.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mitchell). They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Perry Central 23-20. Surprisingly, this marked the Bluejackets' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Linton-Stockton better focus on containing Blake King and Kaden Mullis as the pair were huge in Mitchell's win. King gained 90 total yards and two touchdowns, while Mullis gained 114 total yards and a touchdown. Mullis got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 82 yards.

Mitchell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of King and Sven Lutchka.

Linton-Stockton's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Mitchell, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.

Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Linton-Stockton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 264.7 rushing yards per game.
