Volleyball Recap: Evansville Central Comes Up Short

If Evansville Central was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Evansville Harrison last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bears lost 3-0 to the Evansville Reitz Panthers on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Evansville Central took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-13, 25-16.

Amiya Wheeler paced Evansville Central's offense, picking up six kills. Wheeler got some help from Lauren Lowe and her five assists. Summer Shelby controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Evansville Central has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. As for Evansville Reitz, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.

Evansville Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Washington on the 8th. As for Evansville Reitz, they will take on North Posey in a tournament on Saturday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
