Baseball Recap: Alex Tetreault's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fort Vancouver over Columbia

Fort Vancouver extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-8 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 24-1 to the Columbia Bruins, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-4 back in March.

Fort Vancouver saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Tetreault, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Columbia, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Columbia's side, Kellen Olson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Olson has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Columbia: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ben Borton was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jaden Wang, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Vancouver will take on Heritage at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Columbia, they will square off against La Center at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Bruins' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
