Baseball Recap: Pewamo-Westphalia Comes Up Short

After flying high against Fowler on Thursday, Pewamo-Westphalia came back down to earth. The Pirates fell just short of the Ionia Bulldogs by a score of 5-4 on Monday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Pewamo-Westphalia saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Kriss, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Pewamo-Westphalia has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Ionia, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bulldogs beat Pewamo-Westphalia by a score of 2-0 later that day.
