Baseball Game Preview: Avon Lake Shoremen vs. Firelands Falcons

The Avon Lake Shoremen will square off against the Firelands Falcons at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Firelands took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Avon Lake, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Avon Lake made easy work of Bay and carried off an 8-1 win. The Shoremen haven't had any issues with the Rockets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Isaac Soloff made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Soloff was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other pitching news, Brayden Poltrone looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Alex Soloff and Jacob Perry did most of the damage at the plate: Soloff scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Perry went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Firelands was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 11-1 to Huron. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Falcons have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Firelands saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Kothe, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Firelands' defeat dropped their record down to 0-3-1. As for Avon Lake, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Avon Lake might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Firelands in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Shoremen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
