Socorro couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 28-20 to the Horizon Scorpions on Friday. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured 11 losses in a row dating back to last season.

Socorro lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Eder Hernandez, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards.

Socorro's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Andres Lopez, Roman Alvarado, and Jose Feliz picked up one apiece. Alvarado is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Horizon's side was Prince Vital, who made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Horizon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sergio Santana led the charge by picking up 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Julian Williams, who threw for 321 yards and four touchdowns.

Socorro will take on Ysleta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Horizon, they will square off against West Plains at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Horizon focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
