Softball Game Preview: Detroit Country Day Yellowjackets vs. South Lyon East Cougars

The Detroit Country Day Yellowjackets will head out to take on the South Lyon East Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Detroit Country Day's victory against Warren Woods-Tower wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellowjackets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Titans on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellowjackets have posted since March 20th.

Meanwhile, South Lyon East can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Plymouth Christian Academy.

Chloe McPherson (2027) made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

McPherson (2027) wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Olivia McPherson (2026), who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

South Lyon East's record now sits at 10-14. As for Detroit Country Day, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10.

Detroit Country Day was able to grind out a solid win over South Lyon East in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
