Basketball Recap: East Burke Comes Up Short

East Burke lost against Newton-Conover back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The East Burke Cavaliers took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newton-Conover Red Devils. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Braxton Eckard was his usual excellent self, going 10 of 22 on his way to 32 points and eight rebounds for Newton-Conover. The dominant performance gave Eckard a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Mitchell, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds.

East Burke now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Newton-Conover, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-4.

East Burke didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-51 victory against Bunker Hill on the 8th. As for Newton-Conover, they will head out to challenge West Lincoln at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newton-Conover is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season.
