Softball Game Preview: Port Barre Red Devils vs. Rayne Wolves

The Port Barre Red Devils will face off against the Rayne Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Port Barre has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Port Barre came up short against Holy Savior Menard on Thursday, falling 15-1.

Mallie Ledoux was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Rayne can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They came out on top against Lafayette Christian Academy by a score of 7-4.

Riley LaGrange spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kirsten Thibodeaux was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie Marks, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Port Barre's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Rayne, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.

Port Barre got the 'W' when the teams last played back in February of 2023 against Rayne by a conclusive 8-0 score. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
