Baseball Recap: Allentown Central Catholic Victorious

Allentown Central Catholic proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Emmaus Hornets 9-8. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-2 back in March.

Matthew Rader made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Rader was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Michael Martinez and Ryan Rooney did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Rooney went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Martinez a new career-high. Aidan Sorrentino was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Allentown Central Catholic's record now sits at 10-5. As for Emmaus, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Allentown Central Catholic and Emmaus should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Vikings will challenge Louis E. Dieruff at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (157 vs. 492). Meanwhile, Emmaus (ranked 162nd) will meet William Allen (ranked 503rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
