5A Region I District 5 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Coppell extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region I District 5 this week by beating Marcus, 31-0. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Cowboys.
Lewisville made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,566 from 3,718. The improvement came about via a 28-24 victory over the Farmers last week.
Flower Mound's dynamic duo of Connor Wanhanen and Finn Foster proved tough for Hebron to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wanhanen threw for 170 yards and one touchdown and Foster had 125 yards receiving. Cole McKeel helped Flower Mound's passing attack out by catching six balls for 56 yards.
Conner Haugen was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 71 yards on 19 carries as the Marauders lost to the Hawks. Teammate Court Prescott added to the ground attack by rushing for 20 yards.
Flower Mound's Wanhanen and Foster have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wanhanen has thrown for 1145 yards this season, while Foster has 28 catches for 397 yards. Dezmond Wortham from Hebron leads the league in rushing with 546 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region I District 5 this week will be when Ryan takes on Coppell. At the moment, the Raiders are in third, while Joe Mcbride's team is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Marcus and Dane Johnson's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Bryan Erwin's team comes in having scored 135 this season, while the Jaguars have scored 154. The Marauders scored 0 points last week as they lost to the Cowboys.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Ryan takes on Coppell. Joey Florence's team has allowed 155 points this season, while the Cowboys have given up 76. The Raiders allowed 24 points last week as they topped Lewisville.
Coppell led the league in scoring this week after putting up 31 points on Marcus.
