Basketball Recap: Mardela Gets the Win

While Mardela didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They pulled ahead with a 52-51 photo finish over the Arcadia Firebirds on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Arcadia's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryhiem Pettit, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Pettit is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Travar Cropper, who put up seven points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Mardela's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Arcadia, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mardela will venture away from home to take on Decatur at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Arcadia, they are taking a road trip to challenge Snow Hill at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Arcadia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season.
