Basketball Game Preview: Holcomb Longhorns vs. Hugoton Eagles

Holcomb is 1-9 against Hugoton since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Holcomb Longhorns will challenge the Hugoton Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Holcomb strolled past Cimarron with points to spare, taking the game 63-45. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Bluejays are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hugoton). They took down Ulysses 73-54 on Tuesday.

The win made it two in a row for Holcomb and bumps their season record up to 13-4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points over those games. As for Hugoton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season.

Holcomb was able to grind out a solid victory over Hugoton when the teams last played back in January, winning 55-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Holcomb since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
