Basketball Recap: Sugar-Salem Beats Butte County for Their Seventh Straight Victory

On Friday, Sugar-Salem faced Butte County in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Sugar-Salem Diggers claimed a resounding 63-26 win over the Butte County Pirates. The Diggers' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sugar-Salem to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andee Petterson, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Petterson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Dougherty, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 17 points and five steals.

Petterson wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Sugar-Salem was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Butte County only racked up five assists.

Despite the defeat, Butte County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cambree Lyon posted 11 points.

Sugar-Salem's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for Butte County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Sugar-Salem didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-36 victory against Blackfoot on the 14th. As for Butte County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-47 win against Raft River on the 18th.
