It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Varela can now relate to. They fell just short of the Mater Academy Charter Lions by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. The Vipers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Andy Espinoza was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Varela saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jiovanni Zara, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
