League recap: Caddo Mills stuns Sunnyvale in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sunnyvale, who took down 399th ranked Sunnyvale, 36-17. Daxx Hill ran for 182 yards in the win.

Sam Wells and Dallas Sewell provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Van Alstyne. The connection went for 453 yards, the longest such play in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this season.

Wells put up the best numbers through the air as Commerce bested the Panthers. He finished with a total of eight completions for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Wells' favorite target this week was Daryian Hubbard, who caught two passes for 46 yards.

Sewell was the best wideout in the league this week as Pottsboro defeated Farmersville. Sewell racked up five receptions for 130 yards. Justin Lawler helped Pottsboro's passing attack out by catching four balls for 64 yards.

Colt Rutherford provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Cardinals beat the Farmers. He completed 10 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 115 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Ryan Cottingame of Sunnyvale is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1169. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. On the ground, Caddo Mills's Hill has rushed for 647 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sewell. The Pottsboro star has 27 catches for 700 yards.

A big matchup in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week will be when John Settle's team takes on the Tigers. Sunnyvale is currently in second, while Commerce is in third.

The Foxes moved up to 691 from 807 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 36-17 win over Sunnyvale helped Caddo Mills improve its standing.
