Softball Recap: Eagle Pass Extends Winning Streak to Five

Eagle Pass extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping their season record up to 18-2 in the process. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the United South Panthers an 8-0 shutout. Considering the Eagles have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Eagle Pass got a great performance from Sofia Torres as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Torres a new career-high.

At the plate, Krysta Ruiz was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Karina Gomez, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

As for United South, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-16-1 record this season. While getting shut out isn't ideal, they haven't been shut out since back in February.

On United South's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrea Guerrero, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Eagle Pass didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 win against Del Rio on the 15th. As for United South, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-4 defeat against Laredo LBJ on the 16th.
