Basketball Game Preview: Perquimans Pirates vs. Washington County Panthers

Perquimans hasn't had much luck against Washington County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Perquimans Pirates just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Washington County Panthers at 7:30 p.m.

Perquimans is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Monday. They took a blow against Bertie, falling 80-49.

Meanwhile, Washington County earned a 71-58 victory over Deep Creek last Monday. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 125th in North Carolina, while the Hornets are ranked 281st in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Perquimans better keep an eye on Brandon Carter Jr.. He was instrumental in Washington County's win, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 11 boards. Carter Jr. is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Christian Phelps, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds.

Washington County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Washington County's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Perquimans, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-15.
