The Greenbrier East Spartans will face off against the Independence Patriots at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Greenbrier East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Greenbrier East nor Woodrow Wilson made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Spartans came out on top against the Flying Eagles by a score of 4-1. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Flying Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.

Madilyn Wellman looked comfortable as she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Reagan Cline, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ally Martin, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Independence got the win against Sissonville on Wednesday by a conclusive 10-3. Considering the Patriots have won 15 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Paytin Brehm spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Kassidy Bradbury was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Emma Lilly was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Independence has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greenbrier East, their victory bumped their record up to 15-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Greenbrier East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
