Basketball Recap: Southern California Academy Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Layton Christian Academy

Southern California Academy saw some tournament action on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-45 victory over the Layton Christian Academy Eagles. The win was all the more spectacular given the Rams' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 40th, while the Eagles are ranked eighth).

Loss or not, Layton Christian Academy got some senior leadership from Tyrin Jones and Alan Gballou. Jones went 6-for-11 en route to 14 points, while Gballou went 6-for-9 on his way to 14 points and seven boards. Jones is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 48% in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Omar Mowafak, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Southern California Academy now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Layton Christian Academy, they moved to 18-9 with that defeat, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.
