Softball Recap: Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves vs. Brookfield Academy Blue Knights
Living Word Lutheran had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it six. They lost 10-0 to the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights. The Timberwolves were not able to make up for their defeat to the Blue Knights from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
As for Brookfield Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2. Ten seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
For Brookfield Academy's part, Makenna Best was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Best has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Riley Bodor and Leora Schmidt did most of the damage at the plate: Bodor went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Schmidt went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Schmidt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elisabeth Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.
Coming up, Living Word Lutheran will venture away from home to square off against Howards Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brookfield Academy, they will welcome Shoreland Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
