Basketball Game Preview: Rio Grande Ravens vs. Los Lunas Tigers

Rio Grande is 0-10 against Los Lunas since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Rio Grande Ravens just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Los Lunas Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Rio Grande duked it out withVolcano Vista on Monday. Rio Grande was beaten by Volcano Vista 70-40. While losing is never fun, the Ravens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Hawks are ranked 12th).

Despite the defeat, Rio Grande had strong showings from Sophia L?pez, who posted 19 points along with seven boards and three steals, and Riley Starks, who scored 12 points. L?pez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.

Meanwhile, after a string of 11 wins, Los Lunas' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 49-33 bruising from Albuquerque.

Los Lunas' loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 17-4. As for Rio Grande, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-18.

Rio Grande suffered a grim 51-30 defeat to Los Lunas in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Rio Grande was down 33-12.
