Baseball Recap: Ocoee Comes Up Short

Ocoee had lost six straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-8 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Dr. Phillips Panthers by a score of 5-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

As for Dr. Phillips, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7. They haven't had any issues with Ocoee recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

For Dr. Phillips' part, Jaxon Safford looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. The Panthers are 2-1 when Safford allows one or fewer hits, but 3-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brody Cone, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2025. Ryan Pyka was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Ocoee will take on Mount Dora at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Dr. Phillips, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Oviedo at 7:00 p.m.
