Softball Recap: Layton Lancers vs. Davis Darts

Layton extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-18 in the process. They came up short against the Davis Darts, falling 9-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Darts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in April.

As for Davis, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Davis, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Davis' part, Cambell Christensen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Christensen has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Norah Sunderland was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Adelyn Turpin also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Layton will venture away from home to square off against Corner Canyon at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers are facing the Chargers at the right time seeing as the Chargers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Davis, they will challenge Bountiful at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The RedHawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Darts surely won't give up without a fight.
