Basketball Game Preview: Putnam County War Eagles vs. Jasper County Hurricanes

Putnam County is 10-0 against Jasper County since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Putnam County War Eagles will take on the Jasper County Hurricanes in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Putnam County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Saturday, Putnam County strolled past Morgan County with points to spare, taking the game 76-61. Given the War Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 176th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Putnam County can attribute much of their success to Jmari Greene, who went 10 of 20 on his way to 23 points and five steals, and Tamaud Woodson, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Greene is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shamar Mcclendon, who went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Putnam County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Jasper County was able to grind out a solid victory over Mary Persons on Friday, taking the game 57-47.

Jasper County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Putnam County, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.

Putnam County came out on top in a nail-biter against Jasper County when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 73-71. Does Putnam County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jasper County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
