Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mt. Vernon extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Brogan Holloway. The Mt. Vernon Rams took down the Cahokia Comanches 61-43 on Friday thanks in part to Holloway, who went 5-for-9 en route to 19 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Marlin Price, who posted ten points and five assists. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.

Cahokia's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cornelius Griffin, who earned 13 points. Griffin is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Donta Cary, who had seven points and five assists.

Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Cahokia, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-18.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Marshall County at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Marshall County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests. As for Cahokia, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on Carbondale at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cahokia is facing Carbondale at the right time seeing as Carbondale is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
