Softball Recap: Pace Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Jay

Pace faced Jay in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Pace lost 17-6 to Jay. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Patriots, who until this contest were averaging 1.91 runs allowed.

Ashley Pickard and Britten Kettler stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pickard went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Kettler went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Pickard a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Pace lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Pace fell to 10-1. As for Jay, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 11-0.

Looking ahead, Pace will face off against Navarre at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pace's pitchers better be ready for this one: Navarre has averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Jay, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-0 win against Central on the 31st.
