Basketball Game Preview: Pyramid Lake Lakers vs. Smith Valley Bulldogs

The Pyramid Lake Lakers will square off against the Smith Valley Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pyramid Lake is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sage Ridge 74-37. Winning may never get old, but the Lakers sure are getting used to it with their 14th in a row.

Pyramid Lake's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lorena Eben, who went 11-for-14 to rack up 28 points and eight steals, and Kaitlin Mandell, who went 9-for-18 on her way to 24 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Thanks to that strong game, Eben now owns an excellent 45.8% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Chylie Querta, who posted seven points and three steals.

Pyramid Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Smith Valley made easy work of Virginia City on Friday and carried off a 49-27 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Pyramid Lake's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points over those games. As for Smith Valley, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.

Everything came up roses for Pyramid Lake against Smith Valley when the teams last played last Thursday, as the team secured a 73-25 victory. Does Pyramid Lake have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smith Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
