Softball Game Preview: Mountain View Thunder vs. Hockinson Hawks

The Mountain View Thunder are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will face off against the Hockinson Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain View will be strutting in after a win while Hockinson will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row dating back to last season, Mountain View turned things around against Washougal on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 16-5 margin over the Panthers.

Peyton Lalande made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Lalande was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Single, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Laila Reive, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Hockinson fell victim to Centralia and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 19-0 to the Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Hawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Mountain View skirted past Hockinson 8-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain View since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
