Basketball Recap: Calvary Baptist Comes Up Short

If Calvary Baptist was feeling good fresh off their 74-51 takedown of Bethel Christian last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Calvary Baptist Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 59-58 to the Ayala Bulldogs. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.

Calvary Baptist's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Medard Dabire, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Dabire a new career-high in blocks (five). Akol Machol was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Calvary Baptist's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Ayala, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Calvary Baptist and Ayala should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Calvary Baptist (ranked 376th) will meet Cornerstone Christian (ranked 1279th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Ayala (ranked 153rd) will meet Don Lugo (ranked 1080th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
